FR Online Writing Workshop – Call for Applications

Feminist Review invites applications for an online scholarly writing workshop for women early career researchers* from Black and racialised minorities. Our aim is to provide a space of self- and peer-to-peer feminist care that encourages confidence, openness to critique and the active bringing of one’s voice into academic writing. We also hope that the workshop will help to demystify the academic publishing process and make it feel less intimidating. Participants will take part in writing exercises and share feedback with one another on existing work with the active support of FR’s Collective members and managing editor. As it is online, you need not be UK-based to apply for this workshop.

The programme will be held twice weekly online during 1.5-hour sessions over a 4-week period starting the week of 8 June 2020. As this is a pilot, spaces will be limited to ten individuals at this time.

To apply, please email the following to with subject heading “FR Writing Workshop Application” by 31 May 2020, midnight BST:

  • an abstract (200 words or less) of an unpublished article you are working on and would like to workshop (please have ready a complete draft of the article—up to 8,000 words including abstract, main text, citations, footnotes and references—ready to email for sharing with the group by 4 June 2020) ;
  • a paragraph (200 words or less) telling us a bit about youself and how/why you feel the workshop will be important for you;
  • a completed timeline of your available hours during the weeks of the programme (download form here).

* We recognise that “early career researcher” can include a variety of trajectories and is not age-specific, and therefore allow participants to self identify.
